Italian restaurants are scarce in South Africa, but Il Leone is a local and tourist favourite. Perfectly cooked pasta, delicious sauces and a real Italian feel make this restaurant a must try for any Italians or Italian food lovers.

Il Leone is perhaps one of the best-kept secrets of Cape Town. The waiters have authentic Italian accents which is a great sign but don’t expect them to know Italian. Well, if the food is authentic, you shouldn’t really care whether they can speak Italian or not anyway.

You can expect the waiters to be the perfect judge of what you should eat though. While everything tastes delectable, it’s obvious that people have choices. Depending on what you like or don’t like, they should be able to get you something tasty to eat for sure. When it comes to atmosphere and food, there is very little to complain about at Il Leone.

This quaint restaurant can be found at Green Point, not too far away from Beluga and the V&A Waterfront. The ambiance is terrific, it’s quite smart and cozy. No matter what, the place always seems to be quite busy. The only thing they’re missing is a few cheaper wine options. Apart from that, they are fabulous. Who said you need to go to Italy to have authentic Italian cuisine? This is arguably one of the most delicious Italian experiences you will have.

Though Italian isn’t something you would expect to be eating on your trip to South Africa, it is worth a visit and will pleasantly surprise you and exceed all of your expectations. The chef is knowledgeable, the flavour is wonderful and the atmosphere is one of a kind. Make sure to make a reservation to ensure that you and your family and/ or friends are able to secure a seat.
